Analogy2013

Third International Conference on Analogy
Dijon, France: August 6-8, 2013

The Third International Conference on Analogy will be held in Dijon (LEAD laboratory, CNRS UMR 5022), France, the heart of the Burgundy wine country. The first two analogy conferences took place in Sofia, Bulgaria in 1999 and 2009.

The analogy conference has been scheduled so as to allow easy attendance by people attending the Cognitive Science Conference in Berlin from July 31 through August 3, 2013 (http://cognitivesciencesociety.org/conference2013/index.html).

This workshop will be organized around a series of symposia. Rather than the typical workshop/conference that consists of a series of research presentations, we want to maximize discussion around certain questions that will constitute the topics of each symposium.

There will be a series of nine symposia and one (or, possibly, two) poster sessions over two and a half days. The themes of these symposia, as well as their organizers, are indicated below. A half day will be set aside for cultural events.

This format means that there will be no oral presentation of individual papers and no proceedings.

The official language of the conference is English.

The symposium themes will be

- Computational models (Ken Forbus)

- Analogy, development, ageing and language (2 symposia: Dedre Gentner, Lindsey Richland, Jean-Pierre Thibaut)

- The neuroscience of analogy (Robert Morrison)

- Analogy and education (Stella Vosniadou, Kenneth Kurtz)

- The underlying mechanisms of analogy-making (Leonidas Doumas)

- The role of analogy in higher cognitive abilities (Boicho Kokinov)

Call for Posters

Attendees not directly involved in a symposium will be able to present a poster.
For each poster, a 300-word summary will be required. There will be a light reviewing process for these summaries. These summaries are to be sent to: analogy2013@gmail.com

Important dates

Note that this conference will take place just after CogSci 2013 (Annual Meeting of the Cognitive Science Society) in Berlin (August 1-3).
