Curriculum Vitae

Philippe Lalitte is Professor in Musicology at Sorbonne-University (Institute of Research in Musicology, UMR 8223, Paris) and associate member of the Laboratory for Research on Learning and Development (UMR 5022, Dijon). He also works as Scientific Advisor for the Department of Research Evaluation at the High Council for Evaluation of Research and Higher Education (HCERES). His research focuses on analysis, performance and cognition of 20th and 21st century art music. He explores new methods of analysis using computer technologies (sound representations and audio descriptors), and attempts to transfer some theoretical tools from cognitive sciences and semiotics to the structural analysis of music. He has published numerous articles in national and international journals, edited six books and authored Analyser l’interprétation de la musique du XXe siècle (Hermann, 2015).

Research topics

Music theory, music analysis, music performance, music perception and cognition

My research focuses on 20th and 21st century art music from a systematic musicology perspective. A first research axe develops methods and models for works and performance musical analysis, in particular with software tools developed in the Music Information Retrieval domain (MIR). A second axe focuses on perception and cognition of music after 1945. I am also interested in the contribution of sound and perception sciences to composition. Finally, I am interested in the contribution of music for cognitive remediation of dyslexia and for hearing rehabilitation of deaf children with cochlear implants.
