Research topics

Auditory cognition, music and language cognition, implicit learning

Investigation of nonmusicians’ musical knowledge and its influence on perception (including low-level perceptual processes); behavioral and neural correlates thereof.

Methods: Behavioral paradigms (cognitive psychology, psychoacoustics), brain imagery (fMRI, MEG, EEG).

Target populations: children and adults with typical development ; congenital amusics ; patient populations : Cerebellar patients, patients in altered states of consciousness, amusic patients, dyslexia, SLI, children with ADHD, autism.

Examples of research topics :

-       Investigation of music and language processing (perception; memory): Interaction and/or independence?

-       Musical memory and feeling of familiarity (behavioral and neural correlates)

-       Implicit learning processes of verbal and non-verbal artificial material

-       Congenital amusia (i.e., a lifelong disorder of music processing occurring despite normal cognitive functioning (e.g., memory, attention) and language processing); http://www-crnl.univ-lyon1.fr/Test_Auditif/
